The curve of the cases of Covid-19 goes up in Italy. In fact, they increased by 11.4% in the week from 30 December 2022 to 5 January 2023 compared to the previous one. In the same period, deaths marked a further increase of 9.8% and for four weeks now they have been more than 100 a day.

Thus the Gimbe Foundation in its independent monitoring. A 6% increase in tampons was also detected. From December 30 to January 5, new cases increased from 122,099 to 135,977 and deaths from 706 to 775 (52 of which referring to previous periods), with an average of 111 per day compared to 101 the previous week.

The currently positive cases have decreased by 11,479 units, equal to a drop of 2.7% (from 417,661 to 406,182), and people in home isolation are 10,912 fewer, equal to a drop of 2.7% (from 409,059 at 398,147).

“From the 122,000 of the previous week”, the new cases “rise to 135,000, with a 7-day moving average of over 19,000 cases per day”, observed the president of the Gimbe Foundation, Nino Cartabellotta.

There are 14 Regions in which cases are on the rise. from +1.4% in Veneto to +44.4% in Puglia. Seven Regions, on the other hand, recorded a decrease, from -0.4% in Piedmont to -45% in Valle D’Aosta.

In 67 Provinces there was an increase in new cases, from +0.5% in Ascoli Piceno to +62.6% in Bari and in 40 a decrease, from -0.1% in Reggio Emilia to -45% in Aosta. In no Province does the incidence exceed 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Lastly, monitoring reports an overall increase of 6% in tests, including rapid molecular and antigenic tests: from 807,118 in the week between 23 and 29 December 2022 to 855,823 in the week from 30 December 2022 to 5 January 2023. In particular, the rapid swabs increased by 5.4% (+36,648), while molecular ones by 9.3% (+12,057).

“The 7-day moving average of the positivity rate – concluded the Gimbe Foundation – rises from 11.9% to 12.3% for molecular swabs and from 15.4% to 16.5% for rapid antigenic” .
