MIMMO FISH, MY SON IS A SHELLED. SEVEN AND 1/2 WORDS ON AUTISM (De Agostini, pp. 192, 15.90 euro). Shell, superpowers, school, party, happiness, challenges, tomorrow: there are seven words (plus a small final surprise) that Mimmo Pesce, author of “My son is a shelled” (De Agostini, from 13 September), chooses to try to describe what Tommaso, his son, and all the boys who are autistic like him live in everyday life.
The author, one of the leading faces of the sports broadcasts of Telelombardia, Antenna 3 and Top Calcio 24, known for his acclaimed Napoli commentary, drags the reader into the reality of what he calls the ‘shelled’, in which you play, colors and emotions pass through a special shell, similar to that of a turtle, which autistic children use to feel protected from the outside world, often unable to understand them. There are many situations described, to try to get closer to Tommi and his actions without prejudice: you will be able to find out what drives dad Mimmo and his son to show up every day in the ice cream parlor, in summer as in winter, under the sun or torrential rain, or why Tommi is so obsessed with Disney cartoons.
With the introduction of Elio, the book allows you to enter the life of a very close father and son, and of a wonderful family, in the depth of a true story that makes you move and smile at the same time.
