(ANSA) – BERLIN, 02 JAN – The book of condolences for Benedict XVI remains open in the church of St. Oswald, in the village of Marktl am Inn in Bavaria. Joseph Ratzinger was born in Marktl on April 16, 1927. This morning’s greetings and thanks are found in the book in German, Italian and Spanish.

A first celebration was held on Saturday in the church of St. Oswald, where Benedict was baptized on the same day of his birth, while a rosary was held for the pope emeritus yesterday evening. Fragments of his spiritual testament were read during the rosary. Even the visitor book of the pope’s birthplace in Marktl, a few meters away from the church, has been transformed for two days into a small list of greetings addressed to Benedict XVI. (HANDLE).
