In 2023, work will begin to transform the structure into offices, laboratories, study rooms and coworking
THEThe international competition passes to the second phase and from today the first stone of the new closest Cavallerizza Reale. Six finalist groups selected by the jury to transform the structure, already a UNESCO heritage site, into an international artistic hub: the Turin-based firm Balance Architettura, whose group leader Alberto Lessan, under 40; Adam Caruso of London’s Caruso St. John Llp; Piero Paolo Guicciardini of the Florentine Guicciardini & Magni architects; Anne Lacaton of the French architecture firm Lacaton et Vassal Architectes; Inge Vinck of the Belgian Architecten Jan de Vylder Inge Vinck and finally Cino Zucchi of the Milanese CZA – Cino Zucchi Architetti srl.
The reputation of the candidate firm and its associates was a needle of the balance for the choice of projects, selected among 47 in total and from 12 different countries, reports the president of the commission Michele De Lucchi, together with the references and the quality of the methodological report presented. The final designs will be delivered to the jury in January 2023. In this phase, more than ideas, the caliber of the team that each group managed to ensure was rewarded for the finalist architectural firms. In the seventeenth century, the Cavallerizza Reale must in fact be able to innovate, being careful to respect the conservation of its historical and artistic heritage..
By notice, a cultural hub in the Pagliere, a new headquarters of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation in the Moscow Wing with modern offices on the upper floors, a multipurpose cultural space in the Cavallerizza Alfieriana for exhibitions and artist residencies, some spaces dedicated to training, laboratories, doctoral teaching rooms, offices, spaces for coworking dedicated to the University of Turin and finally rooms for conferences and seminars in the Corps of the Guards. Regarding the timing, at best, explains the president of the commission De Lucchi, we are speaking for the first stone of the new Cavallerizza for spring 2023. While the completion of the works will take at least two years, which is why we are talking about the spring of 2026. The final projects of the finalist groups will be delivered by January 10th. As a jury we will have three weeks to evaluate them. Finally, in February we will announce the winning project.
The jury composed of the architect Michele De Lucchi, Alberto Anfossi general secretary of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani professor of History of urban design at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Elli Mosayebi, professor of Architecture in the same university, Luisa Papotti , former Superintendent of Fine Arts or for the metropolitan city of Turin, Francesco Profumo, president of the Compagnia di San Paolo and Sarah Whiting, dean of the Faculty of Architecture at l’Harvard.
