The legislation that provided for the obligation of a special license to take them to public places was considered to be in contrast with the II amendment of the Constitution. President Biden: Deeply disappointed

One month after the massacre at the school in Uvalde, Texas, the Supreme Court of the United States of America declared a New York law on possession of weapons unconstitutional, which also involved other states. The law – in force for over a century – required citizens to own one special license to carry weapons in public places. The motivation concerns the contrast with the right protected by the second amendment of the Constitutionwhich reads: A well-organized militia being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of citizens to possess and bear arms cannot be infringed.

New York law requires a citizen who wants to carry a firearm to be in possession of one license showing “the justified reason”. Similar regulations are currently in effect in California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Rhode Island. The mayor of the city is upset Eric Adamswho wrote on Twitter that the Supreme Court decision put the New Yorkers at risk of further gun violence. And he adds: We were prepared for this decision and will continue to do everything possible for work with our federal, state and local partners to protect our city.

It is shameful. The reaction of the governor of New York Kathy Hochul it leaves no room for doubt about its position on the matter. I will continue to do everything in my power to keep New Yorkers safe, he added. She echoed the president Joe Biden that is said deeply disappointed from the decision of the Court. Biden was already on the side of those who want a less literal interpretation of the Second Amendment. The decision came with 6 votes in favor against 3 againstafter a period in which mass shootings have returned to the center of public debate.
